This is a reminder that after January 14th, 2020, Microsoft will no longer provide security updates or support for computers running Windows 7. This means all computers need to be running Windows 10 before then.
Will my computer still work after January 14?
Yes computers with Windows 7 will continue to operate as before.
What happens if I continue to use Windows 7 after January 14th?
Your computer will no longer receive security updates and will be exposed to viruses that hackers develop. Currently, when hackers develop a way to break in, Microsoft responds by writing code to block the hack and then the operating system is updated. Such security patches will no longer be written and the computer will become more and more vulnerable to attacks after January 14.
Do I need to upgrade my hardware to upgrade to Windows 10?
Any desktop systems older than 5 years and laptop older than 3 years should likely be replaced. If your systems are older, the greater the chance of problems during the upgrade. Systems should have at least 8GB of RAM.
Will I have to relearn anything when moving to Windows 7 to Windows 10.
No, Windows 10 can be set up to look like Windows 7.
Is there a cost to upgrade?
Yes, the license may be purchased for approximately $ 200 Canadian.
Are there labour costs to upgrade?
An upgrade will normally take 1 to 2 hours. This is no charge if you have a Full Managed Services agreement with BSWI.
